The whole world knows what it went through in 2020 with the outbreak of Covid-19. There was an unexpected silence all over and people went through their tough times in just a few months. Apart from all the lifestyle and mindset changes, Covid-19 also brought a huge change in the transformation of the workplace and culture. The virus had a great impact on how people perceived their lives, jobs, and everything surrounding them. They have more time to understand their families, think about the work they do, and work on themselves to become better humans.

The pandemic amended a lot of things while people were able to learn, unlearn, and relearn. Although we saw a lot of layoffs, companies also came forward to hire new people for their organizations. It is surely a huge risk, but the Human Resources department cannot compromise on its operations. Several things changed and it ultimately changed how the HR department designed policies and rules. No one would have imagined that this shift in workplace culture would even happen. Both employers and employees were open to this, and it created mutual trust, which is extremely important.

Today, we have not come to a point where we can confidently say that Covid-19 is completely over. With the virus still lurking around the corner, companies get ready to face further challenges that may arise. Human Resources is the main area that focuses on the overall welfare and safety of the employees. Now, we can easily point out the difference in HR pre and post-pandemic. Organizations are focusing more on the future and are trying to assume the next steps so that they can plan accordingly.

Trends that will shape the Future

#1:- Prioritizing health and psychological wellbeing

Witnessing a huge rise in people suffering from interpersonal issues like stress and anxiety due to work overload, companies have understood the need to provide a safe work environment where people can work according to their schedules. Here, companies create policies that will be a strong indicator for the future. Although stress in the workplace is common, contributing to the safe health of the employees will not only improve productivity but also enhance the performance of the individuals. For the same, providing the remote working option to those who might help people balance their work and life simultaneously.

#2:- Inclusion and belonging

Most people are in the mindset that even if people put their whole soul into their work, companies will not have a second thought before removing them. This is true to some extent, as many firms have been following this practice for a long time, and it creates a negative influence on current and prospective employees. Post-COVID-19, the whole scenario changed as firms understood the need to provide a feeling of inclusivity and belonging to their employees. This has a direct relationship with the performance of the employees and their development as a whole.

#3:- Investing in Reskilling

Basically, reskilling is a critical aspect for both the employer and the employee. Companies must reskill their workforce to be relevant in the industry even after 10 years. With the huge acceleration of technological platforms, employees can join courses and gain expertise in a particular field. HR also needs to make sure the company is hiring employees who are updated with current trends. Focussing on organization-wide skills will be a huge benefit for the employees, as it will keep them in the limelight and help them perform better.

#4:- Focusing on business dynamics

The pre-covid-19 period saw a lot of efficiency and goal-driven processes. During and after the pandemic, businesses started to rely on tailor-made processes to continue with their operations. This will be possible with stale market conditions. To remain relevant in the current market, businesses need to focus more on dynamics rather than efficiency. Once a company becomes dynamic, it will be able to respond to and understand the nuances of the ever-changing market.

#5:- Enabling a Flexible and blended work environment

Today, more than 45% of employees agree that they expect a positive work-life balance to remain happy and productive. Generally, the HR department has also agreed that flexible working options have resulted in enhanced employee performance and satisfaction. Many employees are ready to move to remote working if such an option is provided to them. Moreover, applying a flexible decision-making process in every function will lead to a safe and combined working environment. Leaders must ensure there is a collaborative culture where employees will have the freedom to do their tasks and can support peers in the case of any urgent requirement.

Post-Covid 19 has definitely changed the perception of work and life. HR professionals continue to learn and relearn while taking care of other crucial aspects of the company. They are constantly in the learning phase which allows them to adopt functions that will help the company grow to the next level. However, employee well-being and satisfaction will always be the main focus, and offering them support through every means will be a great choice for businesses as they can enhance the work culture and implement various changes to bring it into practice.
